Hubert Groß, UNI/FH Internship Program
"Digitalization in industry - an opportunity to explore new career paths!"
My name is Hubert Groß, I'm 36 years old and I'm studying High Tech Manufacturing at the FH Campus Wien as a second-chance student.
My career to date includes an apprenticeship in the catering industry as well as technical training as part of my employment at the automotive supplier Magna in Lannach near Graz, during which I completed my apprenticeship as a machine tool technician and the HTL Mechanical Engineering.
These activities have already enabled me to gain experience in a wide range of industries.
As my studies also include a semester of work experience, which I was able to complete at CANCOM Austria, I had the opportunity to get to know another industry in the IT sector that was new to me. The main topic of the work experience was "Digitalization in the industry".
Specifically, this gave me the opportunity to work on an ongoing smart office project, which is a joint project with the office equipment manufacturer Sedus. My work as an FH intern at CANCOM Austria involved a wide range of tasks. Initially, I had to get to grips with new terms, as my training focuses more on technology, and I was able to learn a lot of new things as a result. My work included researching technical components, preparing documentation and instructions and working on day-to-day projects. This also included working with other departments and locations, some of which are abroad. For example, collaboration with the development office in Prague was on the agenda.
The internship was not only characterized by a varied and diverse range of tasks, but also by a high degree of independence. I was able to organize my tasks and working hours independently for the most part and the opportunity to work from home was also a very positive experience for me.
In summary, I can look back on a very exciting five months working at CANCOM Austria, during which I gained my first insight into the IT industry and was able to learn a lot of new things. I am also grateful for the collegial cooperation in the team and the appreciation of my work that was shown to me during this time. I am also very lucky that I will be able to continue working as a student employee after my internship and perhaps continue my professional career at CANCOM Austria in the future.
